WIZARD OF OZ HAT CONTEST 2005
Looking for lions and tigers and bears, oh my! On top of a hat???? Why not!
Join us for the first Oz themed hat contest at this year’s Oz festival.
Design an Oz themed hat for this year’s festival and enter it in the hat competition to be held at the end of the Judy-Oz Exchange.
Suggestions for hat ideas are anything to do with Wizard of Oz since the film in 1939 or since 1900, when L. Frank Baum wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Be original and creative and wear your idea on top of your head! Heads are for wearing hats!
Judges will be looking for original ideas with themes based on Wizard of Oz such as, but not limited to, Munchkinland, Emerald City, Ruby Slippers, Characters (WWW, Scarecrow, Tinman, Glinda, etc.) and Baum’s original characters. Be creative and have fun with your design! Since this is the first year for the hat contest, practically anything goes as long as it is Wizard of Oz related and can be worn on the head.
Contestant will model hat during competition and will be asked to describe the hat and what inspired him/her to design the particular hat. Also, the contestant will be asked if he or she would sell his/her hat, and if so, what is the price. Contestant will be asked questions about the design of the hat and how it was put together, etc. Contestants should be prepared for anything since the judges are very experienced in hat design!
#1 RULE: Person entering the hat in the competition must be the same person who designed/made the hat.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second, third, and worst design. The status of the awards are as follows:
Ruby Slipper Award for First Place (Red Ribbon)
Emerald City Award for Second Place (Green Ribbon)
Over the Rainbow for Third Place (Rainbow Ribbon)
The Flying Monkey Award for Worst of Show (Monkey Brown)
Contestants winning, First, Second, Third, and Worst of Show, will receive “special” ribbons, along with a prize, to be worn on their hats throughout the festival in order to identify the winners.
